The Pikkolo is an innovative soft structured baby carrier that combines the versatility of a traditional mei tai, an Asian-style soft carrier that ties on with long fabric straps, with the ergonomic functionality of a modern buckle carrier. Unique design features enable the Pikkolo baby carrier to adapt for newborns through toddlers, 3.6 to 18 kg, without an infant insert. The Pikkolo allows front facing in, front facing out, hip, and back carries, with or without the optional babywearing support belt accessory. How It Works
The Pikkolo works like a mei tai for front carries, with shoulder straps crossing on the back and waist belt around the waist. Newborns and very small babies are put in an upright position with legs froggied, knees bent, and toes pointing to the outside of the carrier, in the best position for strong hip socket development. The adjustable base allows babies to have legs out at an earlier age than with non-adjustable carriers, great for the 2-4 month stage when many babies want their legs out but aren't ready for a full straddle. This feature also enables an ergonomic forward facing out position for young babies with good head control who want to see the world. For back carries, the carrier transforms into a soft structured carrier where the shoulder straps are worn backpack-style and clipped together with a chest clip. The optional babywearing support belt can be used from when baby is 9+ kg to transfer baby's weight to the wearer's hips and extend the height of the carrier. A hip carrying position is also possible.
